Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek

Day 01: Kathmandu to Nepalgunj via flight - 1 hours

We take a flight from the capital city of Nepal to Nepaljung. The duration of the flight takes 1 hours approximately. It is a city which shares a border with India located on the Western part of Terai. Relatively, the city get scorching during summer so while we go out for a walk, make sure to wear suitable clothes. During the evening we will visit a few places if you would like to. Tonight we spend our overnight at Nepalgunj.

Day 02: Nepalgunj to Jhupal flight and trek to Suligad - 45 minutes flight/2.5 hours trek

On this day, we will take another flight to Jhupal towards North. The duration of the flight will be more or less 45 minutes. As soon as we land at Jhupal the shift in the atmosphere will amaze you as it will be a bit windy and chilly compared just an hour earlier. Later, we will hike for ⅔ hours in order to reach Suligad.

The path contains walk through the fields which eventually leads to Thuli Bheri River. After crossing a suspension bridge at Dhim we set our foot inside the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Then and further one  hour walk, we will reached at Suligad. Our destination for tonight on the bank of the beautiful river.

Day 03: Suligad to Chepka (2,720 mt) - 6 hours

The terrain follow the shore of Suli Khola(River).  Today we will be crossing a few small and beautiful settlements which are pronounced  Kageni and Sangta. We will be able to witness a glimpse of Dhaulagiri Range whereas walk through the dense forest of fir, juniper, pine, spruce, and herbs bushes will be present in plenty. 

Just before reaching to Chepka we will come across sloppy rocky climb which is a bit strenuous. And tonight we will be settling down at beautiful place.

Day 04: Chepka to Amchi Hospital (3,130 mt) - 6/7 hours

A sweet and delicious village breakfast will be astonishing to start our trek. For the most part, our terrain will be much easier consisting of plain walk and a few uphill in lesser sections. Oh my God! Walking beside the whistling and remarkable river will be just fascinating. 

The deep gorge walk and head spinning mountains will accompany throughout the day. Then 4 hours later we reach at Rechi Village which will push us to the next side of the river until Chunuwar. As mentioned above the region is inclined and influenced to Tibeatean Culture, you will witness ancient physician practicing ancient healing treatment method. Amchi Hospital is the prominent place where patients are handled by Tibeaten medicine and local herds. We will rest at local guest house here for the night.

Day 05: Amchii Hospital to Phoksundo Lake (3,600 mt) - 6 hours

Yeah, today we will be at a place which is spell bound however, before reaching at the Lake we will need to ascend steep hill for two hours. Along the way, the view of enormous hills, one of the highest waterfalls (Suligad Jharna) escaping from Phoksundo itself will bedazzle your sight. 

There is a view tower called Phoksundo Tower which offers the splendid view of Ringmo village, waterfall and lake. The village is just uniquely neat and cultural where the Bonpo religion is safeguarded  which is dated back more than a thousand years. It is also the realm of religion, the atmosphere there is soothing and will definitely have a calm affect on your mood and will make you ponder about the existence of the place.

Well, after a tiring walk, of course it’s time for a rest and tonight we will spend overnight just beside the enormous and captivating lake, Phoksundo.

Day 06: Exploration day at Phoksundo - 6 hours 

Now, that you have observed the enthralling lake from the surface, it is time to hike uphill and give your sight a birds eye view of the lake and mountains from above. We will stroll around the lake and capture it from every possible angle. The crest provides the magnificent panoramic that will ingrained for a lifetime.

When we will be done with it, we will head back  and know in depth about the place and religion with the locals. Later, we will observe the sunset at the peak and spend the overnight.
 

Day 07: Trek to Chekpa (2,720mt) - 7 hours 

Our walk will involve jungle walk of pine birch forest. After exploring the leftover section, we will head to Rechi which takes 4 hours and another three hours to Chekpa. Leaving those scenic view behinds we will only bring our experience and memories of that place. The majestic of today will end at Chekpa around late afternoon.

Day 08: Trek to Dunai - ⅚ hours

Following the same trail that we used to Phoksundo we will descend through spectacular villages Kageni, Sanga, Suligad then to Dunai. Mesmerising walk through the pine, spruce, fir, juniper and bamboo forest provides the fresh and natural air with the whistling sound of river. As Dunai is the headquarters of Dolpa, we will be spending our night at this place.

Day 09: Trek to Jhupal - 5 hours

Trek to Jhupal will let us exit the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Path will be comparatively less and easier but a bit of inclined walk before reaching Jhupal. A small town beside the hilly airport will be the place for overnight.

Day 10: Jhupal - Nepalgunj - Kathmandu

We will be having two flights outright, Jhupal to Nepalgunj and Nepalgunj to Kathmandu. The entire flight duration of the flight will be 1:45 minutes with a boarding wait.
