Pikey Peak is a 4,065 meters elevated Peak in Solukhumbu district. No, it isn't covered with snow throughout the year however during winter(Dec-Feb) it receives a thick snowfall. Indeed it is one of the best treks for beginners and those who seek to explore mint terrains.
It is not a mainstream trekking route like Everest Base Camp and this is its attraction. Nevertheless it does not lack any components needed for tourism. The authentic culture of Sherpa ́s, the well managed trails with adequate accommodation, historic monasteries and abundances of Natural beauty. The trail emcompasses through several villages and your sight can spread out in the distant settlements of Sherpas. Another distinguishable things about this area is that most of the people are involved in mountaineering and affiliated to the tourism industry.
The trek starts off from the elevation of 2,850 meters and the place is known as Dhap. Along with the trekking experience one can indulge the magnificent view of himalayas such as Mt. Everest (8,848 mt), Mt Kanchenjunga (8,586 mt), Mt Makalu (8,463 mt), Mt Gauri Shankhar (7,134 mt), Mt Thamserku (6,623 mt) and ranges that lies on the Eastern part of Nepal.
Day 01: Kathmandu (1,400 mt) to Dhap (2,850 mt) - 8/9 hours drive
Day 02: Dhap to Jhapre (2,815 mt) 6 hours hike
Day 03: Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp (3,640 mt) 7 hours
Day 04: Sunrise from Pikey Peak (4,065 mt) hike to Loding (2,400 mt) & drive to Phaplu (2,469 mt)
Day 05: Phaplu to Kathmandu - 9 hours drive
Day 01: Kathmandu (1,400 mt) to Dhap (2,850 mt) - 8/9 hours drive
The major highway we will be taking today is known as Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala Highway (B.P Highway) which connects Kathmandu Valley with the eastern part of Terai. It is one of the best highways of Nepal which was construction in cooperation of Japan.
The road follows one of the most famous rivers Sunkoshi which originates from Tibet. Upto Khurkot we will be crossing places such as Kavre Bhanjyang, Bhakunde Besi, Magaltar and Mulkot. A bit further from Khurkot then we will take the highway known as Harkapur-Okhaldhunga-Salleri road. After Khurkot one of the major stops along the way is known as Gurmi. We will be crossing Sunkoshi and head uphill towards Dhap.
The path is sneaky so if you have vomiting habits while travelling in vehicle then we recommend to take meditation. We will reach at Dhap late in the afternoon, as the place is elevated the breeze will be cold so keep a jacket in handy spot.
Day 02: Dhap to Jhapre (2,815 mt) 6 hours hike
Dhap is a small area on the side of the road with a few hotels which have the facilities of food and accommodation. After an early morning breakfast we will commence our walk.
The place itself offers a magnificent view of the snow-capped himalayas. We will be following the motorable path for 2 hours and the next village we will reach will be Khamding. The vegetation will be blue pines, conifers, morinda spruces, hemlocks and dozen species of rhododendrons throughout the way.
Jhapre is a small settlement with over a dozen houses and there is an ancient Gompa known as “Shree Nyagyur Dechhen Choling”. On clear weather, the sight of Pikey Peak and other snow-capped mountains can be seen.
Day 03: Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp (3,640 mt) 7 hours
After an early morning breakfast we will hike onward motorway which will eventually lead us to the top of the hill. Some sections have narrow trail through the dense jungle of Juniper and Shurb Rhododendrons. It takes more or less one hour.
After a certain time we will reach the top of the hill where the size of Rhododendrons trees gets smaller. The village on the other side is known as Gorakhani whereas the village that is beneath is called Tapting. The majority of steps follows the open pasture lands and ridge walk. Following the motorway we will reached Bhulbule and head towards Amushe. The path offers a magnificent view of the surrounding and hilocks. IN duration it will take 5-6 hours until Mane Danda
Walking further takes us to the place known as Mane Danda. From this point trails provides a strenuous uphill challenge for 45 minutes. Upon crossing this section our destination is Pikey Peak Base Camp which is just 45 minutes slanted walk along the hill. Dusk view from the base camp is admiring.
Day 04: Sunrise from Pikey Peak (4,065 mt) hike to Loding (2,400 mt) & drive to Phaplu (2,469 mt)
Leaving early will provide us the opportunity to observe the hemispherical change to its fullest. You must wear wind stopper jacket while hiking up because the strong gust blows from left to right. Do not forget to keep chocolate bar and enough water inside you day pack.
The crest offers jaw dropping view of Mt. Everest (8,848 mt), Mt Kanchenjunga (8,586 mt), Mt Makalu (8,463 mt), Mt Gauri Shankhar (7,134 mt), Mt Thamserku (6,623 mt) and ranges that lies on the Eastern part of Nepal. After sunrise we head downhill to Jase Bhanjyan (3,530 mt) which takes 1 hour and this will be our lunch place. Later we will head downhill through the dense forest to Loding. The path is steep downhill and it takes 2-3 hours.
And we will be taking jeep upto Phaplu which will take 35 minutes.
Day 05: Phaplu to Kathmandu - 9 hours drive
From Phaplu we can provide both options by flight/drive. The drive hour will take 9 hours and flight will take 35-40 minutes. We will have to leave early from Phaplu around 6 am.

Qualification/Training
Best physical condition is required to do trekking in Nepal in high altitude. Lots of up down includes while doing trekking. We suggest running, walking, hiking in the hill, climbing stairs rather than elevator to prepare for the trek. Include swimming, rowing, biking in your daily base training.

How many miles should we walk in a day?
The duration of walk per day will not be more than 9 miles. The distance also depends upon the camp in a day however you will not have to walk more than 9-10 miles.
What about the other options to reach there?
Yes, there is a flight option too! However, one has to drive 3 hours back to Dhaap to start the trek.
How are the lodge and rooms?
This route has been explored recently but the condition of Lodges and rooms provide moderate facilities.
How is the food menu?
In Nepal, all trekker route contains the same menu items like Momo, Pizza, Nepal Dal Bhat, Sherpa Dish, Macaroni, Snacks, Spaghetti, Noodles, Soup,, Dinner set and many mores.
How is the trekking terrain?
The path consists of both motorways and fabricated ways. As you ascend, path will be through the forest of Junipers, oak and Rhododendrons.
